What it is

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is plasma from your own blood, enriched in platelets and growth factors. It is obtained with a simple blood draw and centrifugation, then delivered to the area being treated.

On the scalp it is used as an adjunct in androgenetic hair loss and diffuse thinning, aiming to strengthen the existing follicles. On the skin it is used for rejuvenation and improved quality.

It does not replace diagnosis: the cause of hair loss is investigated first, because only then does PRP fit into a plan that makes sense.

Technology / material: Closed, sterile collection and centrifugation systems for preparing autologous PRP, without additives.

Who it is for

  • Androgenetic hair loss in early or moderate stages
  • Diffuse thinning (including post-partum, stress, diets), after investigation
  • Strengthening the scalp before or after a transplant
  • Rejuvenation of the face, neck and the area around the eyes

What it can address

  • Thinning and increased shedding
  • Fine hair and a weakened scalp
  • Dull skin with reduced elasticity

What it aims to improve

  • Strengthening existing follicles and reducing shedding
  • Improved skin and scalp quality
  • Supporting the results of other treatments

How it is performed

  1. 1

Dermatological examination, investigation of the cause and, where needed, laboratory tests.

  2. 2

A 10–20 ml blood draw and centrifugation to separate the plasma.

  3. 3

Antisepsis and, if needed, anaesthetic cream or cooling.

  4. 4

Delivery with multiple micro-injections into the area (scalp or skin).

  5. 5

Instructions and scheduling: usually 3–4 initial monthly sessions, then maintenance.

Before, during and after treatment

Before

  • Hydrate well and do not come fasting (the blood draw is easier).
  • Avoid anti-inflammatories and alcohol for 2 days beforehand, if your own doctor allows.
  • Wash your hair beforehand, without styling products.

During

  • The blood draw is like a routine blood test.
  • The micro-injections in the scalp are quick; discomfort lasts a few seconds at each point.

After

  • Do not wash your hair for 12–24 hours.
  • Avoid the gym, sauna and pools for 24 hours.
  • No hair dye or harsh products for 3–5 days.

Frequently asked questions

Will hair grow back where I am bald?

No. PRP strengthens follicles that exist and still function; it does not create new ones where they have been lost. In such cases other options are discussed.

Does it hurt?

The blood draw is like a routine test. The scalp micro-injections give a brief sting and are made easier with anaesthetic cream or cooling.

How many sessions and how often?

Usually 3–4 monthly sessions initially, then maintenance every 4–6 months, depending on the response.

Is it safe?

Your own blood is used, in a closed sterile system, so the risk of allergy is minimal. There are, however, contraindications that are checked beforehand.

Can it be combined with medication?

Yes, and this is often the most effective approach: PRP supports the hair while medication addresses the mechanism of hair loss.

Indications, the number of sessions and the protocol are determined individually, after medical assessment. Results vary from person to person.
